Celtivation - 2nd September 2017Celtivation combines Celtic music from the British Isles with jazz, classical and contemporary ideas through the medium of the Fiddle and Cello. It is an album about perpetuating the growth of Traditional music and is a
snapshot in time of our own personal journey through the wilderness of that tradition. We are proud of our 'Indie' roots and the fact that every facet of Celtivation has been cultivated by An Dha, from the sound engineering and mastering to the design and artwork. Celtivation is an attempt to distil the raw essence of what it is to truly play Traditional Celtic Folk music and as far as possible we have tried to re-create our 'live' sound without resorting to digital effects. Just two musicians, a fiddle and a cello. - An Dha About An Dha An Dha means 'The Two' in Gaelic. Two musicians, two cultures, where the land and the sky meet, the Violin and the Cello, separate yet merging into one sound.
The delicacy of classical perfection, fire from the Scottish Tradition and the spirit of jazz and the life of the City. Two musicians on a journey exploring life and music, together. An Dha is the Folk music alter ego of the Chapel Hill Duo a violin and cello duo formed in 2011 at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. After attending the Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas folk music course on the Isle of Skye in 2013 they decided to explore the world of folk music in more depth and started to compose and play their own tunes. In 2016 the Duo won the London Fiddle Convention Competition, were awarded a position in the New Roots Showcase and were finalists in the Bath Folk Festival New Shoots Competition. In 2017 they won the Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Competition. SKYLINES is their debut album of original compositions inspired by the conflicting worlds of urban life and the freedom ofartists such as Alasdair Fraser, Natalie Haas, Adam Sutherland, Patsy Reid, Lau, Barrule and many more. In September 2016 'The Tender Trout and the Lonely Daffodil' from Skylines was selected as the BBC Radio 3, World on 3 BBC Introducing Track of the Month. |
